PROCLAMATION/RESOLUTION

Laura Daugereau Day in Kitsap County

WHEREAS, Kitsap County citizens value heroic achievements, enjoyment of outdoor adventure, and the pursuit of long-held dreams, and

WHEREAS, we all need role models to encourage goal setting, focused hard work, risk taking and appreciation for the teamwork involved in achieving one’s goals, and

WHEREAS, racing with a team of sixteen exquisitely trained and disciplined sled-dogs over 1,150 miles of Alaskan terrain filled with jagged mountain ranges, frozen rivers, dense forest, desolate tundra and miles of windswept coast is an unusual dream for a 13-year old girl, and

WHEREAS, one of Kitsap County’s own worked, trained and followed that very dream for 13 years making it a reality in March 2008, and

WHEREAS, Laura Daugereau is that young woman and made history this year as the first woman from Washington State to run and finish the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, and

WHEREAS, we, the Kitsap County Board of County Commissioners recognize and applaud her accomplishment and wish to encourage others to heed Laura’s example by overcoming personal challenges to follow their dreams

NOW, THEREFORE, we, hereby proclaim Monday, August 25, 2008 as Laura Daugereau Day throughout Kitsap County. DATED this ________________ day of ______________ 2008.
