Hello LIsters,

I drove from Federal Way Washington State to Vancouver Washington State yesterday. I listened to the CD "16 Tails Laura Daugereau's Rookie Iditarod" on the way down and again on the way back. I heard it twice in one day and was not tired of listening. Now I want a second CD that goes deeper into Laura's knowledge of training and loving dogs.

Laura Daugereau is the first woman from Washington State to complete the Iditarod. I have had the pleasure of meeting Laura twice. The first time was at a summer camp in north Seattle (2008) where Laura presented to a group of children and their counselors in a church meeting hall. I was smitten. She is a wonderful explainer of mushing and thoroughly engages the audience of all ages. Then I met her at the Annual Tunnel Run of K9ScootersNW and the Northwest Sled Dog Club in August 2008. Laura can swap tales (and tails) around the campfire tale for tale with any musher or adventurer!!!! And most amazing she is more sensitive to dogs than any human I have ever met. I gave her a ride in the chalo sulky. I can't remember what she did or said about my little Rosy who helped Brett pull but she picked out personality and needs and sore places like no one I have ever met.

Laura's routine at a rest stop is pull in, lay down straw, take off booties, massage and do chiropractic for each dog especially neck, back wrists, feed the dogs, coat the dogs, put blankets over the dogs, top the dogs with the rest of the straw so they are in their warm cocoons. Oh yes, wolf down as much high calorie people food as possible, lie down in the sleeping bag and let Petunia, the petite lead dog, climb into the bag with you and sleep on your chest.

I want you all to buy this CD.

Yours for running dogs,

Daphne Lewis
